The Process

01 Design

Each piece begins with a unique design, whether created for a commission or developed as an original work.

For original pieces, the process starts with an idea. Inspiration can emerge from a feeling, a lived experience, fashion, architecture, design, places, or people. From there, I gather visual references, explore concepts through sketching, and refine the composition until the final design takes shape.

02 Glass & preparation

Once the design is established, I determine the size and format of the artwork or work according to the commission specifications.

The laminated glass is then carefully selected and prepared. The composition is drawn directly onto the surface, creating a precise map that guides every intended strike throughout the process.

03 Strike & fracture

I use a variety of tools depending on the effect I want to achieve. Sometimes I work directly with a hammer; at other times, I incorporate different chisels and techniques to create specific textures, forms, and fracture patterns.

While every strike is intentional, the glass ultimately responds according to its own internal stresses and physical properties. The process becomes a collaboration between control and unpredictability, between artistic intention and the inherent nature of the material.

Every mark is permanent and irreversible. No two works can ever be identical.

Each strike carries risk. Occasionally, the glass fractures in a way that makes the work impossible to continue, requiring the entire piece to be started again from the beginning. There is no possibility of correction. While challenging, this uncertainty is an essential part of the process and contributes to the uniqueness and unrepeatable nature of every artwork.

04 Light & life

The final image may be composed of thousands of tiny internal fractures, more dramatic fracture patterns, or a combination of both. Some works consist solely of fractures that form the image itself, while others incorporate larger cracks that become an integral part of the design and composition.

The result depends not only on the effect I intend to achieve, but also on the behaviour and internal tension of the glass itself.

The finished work shifts with every light source and viewing angle. Iridescent shards and crystalline lattices are never static, revealing new details as the viewer moves around the piece. The artwork lives with its environment, continually changing through its interaction with light.

The medium

No two works can ever be identical. The physics of glass fracture is irreproducible.

Every work is unique, created using hammer and chisels on laminated safety glass. The outcome cannot be precisely predicted or exactly recreated. I work with the will of the glass and the crack patterns as they emerge throughout the creation process. Once completed, the work cannot be modified or corrected, and it is this very nature of the material that makes each piece truly one-of-a-kind.

Due to the internal tension within the glass, fine additional cracks may appear over time or during transport. These are inherent to the material and are part of this type of work.

The iridescent shard edges, and tiny glass spheres formed at impact points create a material richness that photography cannot fully capture. Viewing in person is transformative.
